Hockey 1st XI SISS Tournament Invercargill
The team was promoted last year into the Audrey Timlin competition which is a National 3rd tier tournament. There were teams from both islands competing which made for good competition.
We started with a loss 3-0 to the eventual winners Queen
Margaret College from Wellington. It was a great game, hard and fast and an
indicator that this was going to be a challenging tournament. We only had one
other loss all tournament to Lincoln High School who we met again in the
playoffs (and beat!!). Sadly we did not qualify for the semifinals by one goal.
There were three teams on the same points and we had the least goals. This made us
work harder in our final three games and resulted in three more wins. We ended
up in 5th place which cements our place in this grade for next year.
In the end we palyed seven games with five wins and two losses, so a very pleasing
week.
Outstanding players were Mira Neuman, Helene Hornemann and Larissa Peyroux, who consistently played at a high standard all week. A special thanks to Mika Cottle for coming with us at the last minute, we really appreciated your commitment to our team. We would like to thank our wonderful coaches, Sally McKenzie and Sarah Thomas, our lovable and crazy manager, Polly and our top chef,
