Rongoā Māori Garden

Jade Wilson, Māori Prefect —

On Monday, members of Kāhui Kōrero (our Māori Student Council), staff, and students came together to plant and nurture our new Rongoā Māori Garden — a space dedicated to traditional Māori healing plants and the wisdom of our tūpuna.

The garden celebrates rongoā Māori, the natural remedies and healing practices passed down through generations. Each plant was carefully chosen for its significance in promoting wellbeing, connection to the whenua (land), and cultural learning.

Led by Jade Wilson (Māori Prefect 2025), the project has been a collaborative effort between students, staff, and whānau. Together, the girls spent the morning planting, learning about the uses of each rongoā species, and reflecting on the importance of caring for both people and the environment.

This space will serve as a living classroom — a place for healing, learning, and remembering. Ngā mihi nui to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

The official opening of the garden will be on Thursday 13th of November at our Māori student prizegiving.

Special thanks to Ribbonwood Nurseries for their generous discount when we purchased the plants.
