ASPIRING CAMP
HAIKU and other verse from ASPIRING CAMP Collaboratively composed in a mountain hut….
Green-feathered kea,
Flies through the trees and regards
Teenagers fatigued.
Snowdrop marshmallows,
Shatter the dreams of young minds:
White river of snow.
Running river rocks
Slide through slivers of shale.
Majestic rockfall.
Amid hut banter
Mice take desperate last gasps
Nature tumbles down.
Where was the ice cream?
I thought there'd be ice cream there.
Let down by Rob Roy…
Dr takes pictures.
He took a lot on our camp.
Mostly of nature.
Whaea Joe was nice.
She was very positive.
Positivity.
Mrs Davidson.
We walked past avalanche zone.
It was her idea.
Boys from Gore High came.
We weren't allowed to see them.
That was quite gutting.
At night it was cold.
I was not expecting it.
My nose almost froze.
Wednesday long steep walk,
Passing through a waterfall,
Slipping on a log.
We were only trying to cook our dinner
Then we looked inside the inner
The flame was looking a little thinner
So we lit it again and we had a winner.
I had camp
I went on a tramp
On Aspiring’s dirt my foot made a stamp
My leg got a cramp
My tent was damp
That was my camp
Hot days, freezing nights,
Our tomato tans exposed
Sunscreen isn’t enough
Tiny cake tasted
Candlelit faces captured
A ritual observed
Snowberry leaf rise
Bloodburst over liverworts
Beetle patina
One night after tea
We cooked marshmallows on fire
Tasted delicious
Best question on camp
How long should you cook the
Two minute noodles?
