Outstanding Results at Otago Secondary School Athletics Championships
Last weekend, seventeen of our talented athletes competed at the Otago Secondary School Athletics Championships held at the Caledonian Ground, delivering outstanding performances and achieving remarkable results.
A standout highlight of the event was Jessie McGrouther, who set a new Otago record in the Senior Girls Hammer Throw, with an incredible distance of 48.28m.
Skye Wilson was also in record-breaking form, smashing the U14 Girls Long Jump record with a leap of 5.21m, surpassing the previous mark by 21cm. She continued her winning streak with a commanding victory in the 100m and an impressive performance in the 80m Hurdles, where she clocked a time well under the Otago record. However, an exceeding wind speed prevented this result from being officially recorded.
Jade Wilson claimed victory in both the Senior Girls 100m Hurdles and the Senior Girls 100m sprint, setting a personal best time of 12.39s, just shy of the Otago record. Jade has been selected into the Otago Academy of Sport Development Squad!
Eva McLean dominated the U14 800m and 1500m, securing gold in both events with strong front-running performances.
Lulu Blakely took first place in the U15 Triple Jump and secured third in the Long Jump. She also competed in the High Jump, finishing second after a close jump-off, having cleared 1.45m.
Isla McQueen was victorious in the U15 Hammer Throw, adding to her success with a third-place finish in the Shot Put.
Julia Hodgson excelled in distance events, winning theU14 3000m and placing second in the Open grade 2000m Steeplechase.
In sprint events, Lailah Robson sprinted her way to second place in both the U15 100m and 200m races.
Lucy Fitzgerald impressed in the U16 distance events, finishing second in the 3000m and third in the 1500m.
In the Senior Girls 3000m, Lilly Trickey crossed the finish line first, while Carlotta Schwefel secured a second-place finish in the U15 event.
Lucy Carman claimed second place in the U16 400m race, showcasing her strength in the one-lap sprint.
Adding to the team's success, our Senior Girls 4x100m relay team of Jade Wilson, Skye Wilson, Lailah Robson, and Sophia Oats delivered a dominant performance, securing a comprehensive victory with a significant lead over their competitors.
Other team members, including Delilah Brown, Elzanne Hamman, Mae Lowrey, and Allegra van Gelderen, also put in strong performances, achieving personal bests and multiple top-10 finishes.
