Year 13 Business Studies - mentoring

Mr D Trickey, Business Studies - April 4, 2025

Year 13 businesses are deep in the ideation stages of their business journey for the Young Enterprise scheme, and it has been great to see them connecting with mentors across the community.

We were lucky to have Blair Kippenberger of Bin Blast come in to talk to the students about the reality of start-up companies. Blair was behind the Deliver Easy start-up in Wellington and told the budding entrepreneurs about the reality of bootstrapping a company from idea to service. He also talked about the added competition arising from the American giants of the food delivery industry moving into New Zealand.

He went on to set out the recent Dunedin start-up company Bin Blast and what they have been doing to start this company and grow a client base across Dunedin. Look out for the awesome truck doing the rounds.

The year 13's took a lot from this session. One student said, "It was great. Everyone says it is hard as a start-up, but you were specific on what was actually hard."

Look out for our Young Entrepreneurs as they complete their first business challenge Validation and start to prepare for the pitches in term 2.
