Outdoor Education

Ella Scarf-Matthews & Hayley Yates, L1 Outdoor Education students —

Level 1 Outdoor Education day tramp to Leith Saddle and Rustlers Ridge.

With bags packed, gear checked, seatbelts buckled and everyone ready, we drove off to Leith Saddle/Rustlers Ridge on Tuesday 20 June. Once we arrived at the start of the track we got into our groups for a team debrief. With Miss Young leading our class we set off not long after the other class lead by Miss Ward. The start of the track was a very steep hill and you could feel everyone praying it wasn’t like this the whole walk - thankfully it wasn’t. After about 40 minutes into the walk, we got this amazing 360 degree view of greater Dunedin and all the nature around. Throughout the walk, everybody took turns at navigating and leading their group safely along the track. The walk was an enjoyable time for everyone with a lot of laughter, singing and slipping through the mud coming down Rustler's Ridge track. Once we arrived at the end of track everyone was proud of what they had accomplished throughout our five hour tramp.

This walk would not have been possible without Miss Young and Miss Ward planning the trip and also coming with us. We would like to thank Sue Miller (Mika’s mum) and Nathan Yates (Hayley’s dad) for volunteering their time to come and support us on the day tramp.
