Pasifika News

Ms A. Brown, Dean of Pasifika Students —

Kia ora, Kia orana, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei,

Fakaalofa lahi atu, Ni sa bula vinaka, Namaste,
Taloha ni and Warm Pacific Greetings

Our Pacific Island students have had a very busy time at school since coming back from lock-down. There has been a lot happening both in and out of the classroom and it has been great being back and seeing everyone.

TOA Scholarship Award Presentations

The TOA Scholarship Award Presentations were held last week at Pacific Trust Otago. The recipients of these financial scholarships from OGHS were Maia Dean, Salaevalu Feleti-Ivala and Tiare Makanesi. As part of the application process our students were required to write an essay and Tiare and Maia shared these very personal and moving stories. Thank you and congratulations to these three wonderful students.

Pasifika Showcase

With the cancellation of Polyfest our students at both Otago Boys’ and Otago Girls’ are very eager to arrange an end of year showcase. This will be held in Term 4 and will run as it has in the past, with a range of items from both groups. We look forward to seeing this happening and will keep you updated with the details.

End of Term Student Fono/Shared Kai

Tiare Makanesi, our Pasifika Prefect, opened our fono this week. There were notices about upcoming events and an opportunity for our students to suggest ideas such as what they would like to see in our common room (LED lights was one suggestion and I’m still laughing about this!). Thank you to Nicola McLellan and Xanthe Maole who did our shopping and our seniors who helped organise the food. After a very challenging time for us all this was an awesome way to end the term together.
