PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Mrs M. Clements, HOD Physical Education —

Students in Physical Education have been busy this term doing a range of activities that have been enhancing student’s attitudes and values, developing interpersonal skills and learning new techniques of a variety of sports.

Highlights of the term have been:

Year 13 students have been using contemporary leadership styles to coach our Year 9 students.

Year 12 students coaching kiwisport to students at Balmacewen Intermediate, Maori Hill and Kaikorai Primary Schools.

Year 11 students getting prepared for the annual Tchoukball interclass competition.

Year 10 students have been demonstrating interpersonal skills in units such as Netball, Rippa Rugby and Games Invention.

Year 9 students have been cooperating and communicating in units such as Poi, Basketball and Turbo Touch.

Year 11 Outdoor Education classes concluded their rock climbing unit with a two day camp at Long Beach. They are now planning for their first day walk.

Year 12 Outdoor Education cycled 74km from Lawrence to Roxburgh Dam on the Clutha Gold Trail to complete their two day cycle tour assessment. Year 13 are planning and improving their bike fitness for their three day cycle tour early next term.

Good luck with your training for the whole school Cross Country that will be held Week 3 of Term Two. Juniors run approx 2.5km and seniors run approx 3.0km.

The Physical Education Department would like to wish students and families a relaxing Easter holiday and we look forward to the adventures of Term Two.
