Prizegiving 2020

Mrs B Davidson, Deputy Principal —

Tuesday 8 December - 5.30pm Regent Theatre

Prizegiving takes place on Tuesday 8 December this year and all students are expected to attend in full formal Winter school uniform. Prizegiving celebrates achievements across a whole range of areas including academic performance, sports and cultural awards, special service and other prizes, Scholarships, Deans awards and Prestige Prizes such as All Round Students and Dux. It is a chance for our whole school community to get together and celebrate.

It is extremely embarrassing if students’ names are read out and they are not there. It reflects especially poorly on the student themselves. Please make sure your daughter is there. You will receive an email shortly if your daughter is to receive a prize. However a number of prizes are secret until the night and students may wrongly assume they don’t have a prize. We really want each and every student to attend. It supports our school principle of celebrating achievements across all endeavours. It is an exciting time as we farewell our current Head Girl and announce Prefects, Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl for 2021.

All students are expected at school on Tuesday 8 December. Prize-reading assembly will begin in the hall at 8.50am sharp. Book return and Year 13 Leavers’ procedure will also happen on this day. It would be appreciated if books could be returned before this if possible. Juniors should be returning all books now. There will be some rehearsals for prizegiving and activities for the morning before our official farewell to Year 13 at our Leavers’ Assembly at 12.30pm. This time alters from previous years because NCEA examinations are still in progress due to being pushed out because of COVID-19 and the lockdown.

Seniors will be free to go following the Leavers’ Assembly, around 1.30pm. Junior Prize-winners will be escorted to the Regent Theatre for their practice and will be released from there around 2.45pm. All other juniors will leave at the conclusion of Leavers’ Assembly at 1.30pm.

Finally, all students - each and every one - are expected at the Regent Theatre in immaculate Winter uniform at 5pm, ready for the commencement of prizegiving at 5.30pm. Parents should be seated by 5.15pm upstairs. We expect the ceremony to take approximately two hours. Again, this start time has been amended to cater for students who are sitting examinations the following day - the last day of NCEA - on Wednesday 9 December. We then look forward to our Year 13 Formal that evening. This is also the last day for Juniors. They will be released around lunchtime that day.

Thank you for your support of our young people and these important events. Traditions create a wonderful sense of belonging for every student at our school and build year upon year as students go through from Juniors to Seniors. Prizegiving is an exciting celebration of the wonderful student achievements this year. You are all most welcome.
