Principal's Report

Mrs B Davidson, Principal —

Kia ora koutou

Yesterday we interviewed the first of our many enrolments for Year 9 in 2023. We are delighted to meet these students and their families and to welcome them into the Otago Girls’ whānau. Because we have so many enrolments it is important to confirm your place as soon as possible if you haven’t already as out-of-zone placements are becoming tight and we continue to be accepting in-zone places each week.

Thanks to the PTSA for the very successful Bingo Night held at the St Clair Bowling Club last night. It was a fun-filled and rather nerve-wracking evening as lines and houses were called and students, teachers and parents alike enjoyed some hilarity, concentration and very generous prizes donated by our school families and contacts. Please support the PTSA to support your children as they are integral to the running of the school. The PTSA is still looking for new members so do come along to our next meeting on 21 of September and then every third Wednesday of the month.

Sports Week took place in the varied locations of Christchurch (hockey), Timaru (netball) and Dunedin (football). I was fortunate to make it to all three during the week and was incredibly proud of our teams who exhibited the school values so well both on and off the turf/ court/ field. I am also delighted that after two years of intermittent sports activity we are returning to normality in running events. On that note, our annual Sports Day will happen on Monday 13 September and we look forward to a full day of great performances and intense house competition. These events become more significant as we progress towards Year 13 so students should make the most of each and every one! Please encourage entering as many events as possible and dressing up in house colours. We also look forward to our junior exchange with Waitaki Girls’ High School next week.

Board elections close on Wednesday 7 September at 4:00pm and we would encourage all parents to exercise their say in who will represent you on the School Board as this is a pivotal group in steering the future direction of the school.

Please take time to enjoy the Spring and encourage students to get out in the fresh air and warmth when they can.
