Spanish Student Exchange - Lucia

Lucia - Spanish Exchange Student —

My name is Lucía and I'm from Spain. I stayed in New Zealand for six weeks with Sarah Hubbard and her family.

When I knew that I was coming here I was excited and nervous but I could never been able to imagine what was about to live. Ever since I arrived my host family was so nice and kind with me. We had so much fun watching TV shows and going to walk in the woods and mountains. In holidays we went to Queenstown, a place which I loved. In Spain doesn't snow but in Queenstown I got the opportunity of skiing! Although I hadn't ski before I had so much fun. Then we visited many places where there were breath taking views. I totally love the New Zealand landscapes and beaches.

Otago Girls' High school was such a nice place. There are many different subjects to choose and nice student facilites. I wish I could have that in Spain! I enjoyed so much the time that I spent with the other students! I met many cool people that I will never forget. I'm so sad because now I have to say goodbye to them but I'm sure that I will come back. The school activity I liked the most was the Spanish inmmersion with Year 9, where we learnt some Spanish and Latin culture. Girls were so nice with me and they will be always in my heart. Of course, I will never forget when we had churros and the song "Despacito". I couldn't believe that this Spanish song was so popular in New Zealand!

I think that my English has improved since I'm here and I'm so happy about that. Now I can speak more fluently!

I will never be enough thankful for the opportunity of living this experience. New Zealand has become a very special place for me. I thank Sarah for being the best kiwi sister ever.
