Sport Leadership opportunties

Ms C Hokianga —

Student Leadership Opportunity – nominate your sport leaders!

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to recognise and promote your sporting leaders! School Sport NZ are seeking suitable applicants for the inaugural School Sport NZ Student Athlete Commission (SAC). Student voice is a key component in ensuring our offerings are relevant and the SAC is an opportunity for your talented young leaders to contribute to delivering positive experiences in school sport.

The SAC will provide an authentic channel for participant input into the design and delivery of school sport opportunities and to inform change and development in school sport. The SAC builds on student leadership involvement at regional andother levels in developing the knowledge, skill sets, experience and passion of young people in sport leadership. SAC members will, as student ambassadors, represent School Sport NZ at events and contribute student athlete voice to the wider sport sector where appropriate.

Criteria for nomination. To be eligible for nomination, students must be; 1. Enrolled fulltime at a School Sport NZ member school in years 11, 12 or 13 and 2. Nominated by their school principal, a Regional Sports Director (RSD) or aNational Sports Organisation (NSO) and 3.  Actively involved in a regional and/or national school or NSO leadership initiative or programme.

The SAC will comprise up to 10 student athletes at any one time and the term of membership will be two years or until the member leaves school, whichever occurs first. SAC members may seek reappointment for one further term provided they meet the criteria above. Initially the SAC members will be selected from nominations by an Appointments Committee comprising the School Sport NZ CEO, two members of the School Sport NZ board and two RSDs. From March 2022, the SAC will decide the composition of the Appointments Committee. In appointing members, the Appointments Committee will ensure the SAC reflects an appropriate gender (minimum 40% of any one gender), cultural, geographical and school type balance. The SAC will meet up to four times per year, generally once per term, by either face to face or virtual means. At least one meeting must be face to face and scheduled to coincide with either the annual School Sport or RSD Conferences.

School Sport NZ will make all arrangements and cover all costs for meetings. Nominations must be submitted using the electronic nomination form here .

Nominations must be completed no later than 5pm on Tuesday 30th March.
