Introducing our Global and Library Prefect

Edelweiss von hofler, Global and Library Prefect —

Edelweiss Von Hofler

Assalamu alaikum (Peace be upon you) and hello! My name is Edelweiss Fatima von Hofler and I’m so excited to be your Global and Library prefect for 2026.

A few things about myself is that I’m half Malaysian and half American. I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia before moving to Dunedin two years ago. My name, ‘Edelweiss’ is actually German. Before I was born, my mother loved ‘The Sound of Music’ and after being brought to tears by Captain Von Trapp’s singing, she gave me the name ‘Edelweiss’— and it fit perfectly since my dad has German heritage too. It often surprises people, especially when they meet my Year 11 sister, Zainab. We don’t look alike, but we’re half siblings and an inseparable duo! (Even if she might deny it)

I love culture, languages, the arts, and human rights. You’ll usually find me in the library, Amnesty, or choir. As Global Prefect, I hope to bring international and local students closer together and help make everyone feel welcome—plus, I’m planning THE BEST Cultural Day ever. As Library Prefect, I’ll be working with Kenzie and Mr McQuaid to make the library an even more comfortable space, so keep an eye out for Library Day too!

Some fun facts: I speak two languages and I’m learning two more, I love singing, and my favourite books are Babel, Little Women, and The Cruel Prince series.

I’m really looking forward to working with our amazing prefect team this year!
