Sports day

Andie McGrouther and Praise Hola, Sports Prefects —

Last Friday, the very first house competition for the year took place with the schools annual sports day held at the Caledonian. With the sun shining brightly and excitement all through the school, the day was a huge success. There was plenty of enthusiasm and competitiveness shown throughout the day, with loads of laughter and smiles as great memories were being made. The Caledonian was decorated in plenty of red, blue, green, and orange showing support and pride for each of the four houses as the morning of athletics commenced.

The morning began with the 1500m race where we saw lots of determination and talent from the runners absolutely smashing it. The race was shortly followed by the four houses walking a lap of the track, chanting house chants while dressed in colourful costumes and holding banners. This was where each of the houses themes were shown. This year the houses themes consisted of; Benjamin Boogie, Cruickshank Cheerleaders, Allans Airlines, and Williams Wildlife. The house march past was a perfect start to the day, creating an exciting buzz among the school getting ready for a day of fun.

As the day progressed, there were many events allowing the more competitive athletes to shine as records were being broken and an incredible display of talent was shown. There were also events such as the traditional tabloid races (sack races, egg and spoon races, chariot races and more) that provided a fun and enjoyable opportunity for everyone to participate in. The day was made extra special by the amazing support from everyone in the stands and the sidelines, bringing the school together as the day progressed. For the last event of the day, the prefects took on the teachers in the infamous 800m relay by teachers vs prefects relay. The first lap of the race was neck and neck between both teams but as the second lap began the prefects started to pull ahead, managing to hold the lead for the remainder of the race and take the win!

Of course, a huge congratulations goes to Williams house for being the winners of sports day 2023, with Benjamin coming in second, Cruickshank third, and Allan fourth.

It was awesome seeing the school come together and take part in the exciting day. A big thank you to everyone involved in another very successful sports day. It was a great kick start to the year and was truly a very special last sports day for year 13s!
