Success at SISS Athletics Championships

Mrs V Millar —

A team of six talented athletes, accompanied by Ms. Hokianga and Mrs. Millar, traveled to Nelson to compete in the South Island Secondary Schools (SISS) Athletics Championships from Friday, April 4th, to Sunday, April 6th. Fortunately, the team was on one of the last flights to land before a severe weather event disrupted travel on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Despite the challenging conditions leading up to the event, the competition proved to be an outstanding success, with every athlete bringing home at least one medal.

Among the many impressive performances, Jessie McGrouther set a new Otago U17 record in the hammer throw (52.16m), Skye Wilson came within just 1cm of breaking a 1977 record in the U14 Long Jump with a jump of 5.21m, and Eva McLean achieved a personal milestone by running the 1500m in under five minutes for the first time.

  • Lailah Robson – 3rd U15 100m, 4th U15 200m
