During Winter tournament week the Senior A basketball team competed in the South Island Secondary schools’ tournament in Christchurch and finished 13th.

Our young team of 12 was down to 10 with players Talei Pelasio and Rebekah Wairau opting to solely play Netball. The coach Ms Natalie Visger felt there was a higher standard this year and that we were very competitive with the 9 - 12 positioned teams. In fact we only lost by 10 to Marlborough Girls’ who ended up fourth. Natalie has since been named as the head coach for the New Zealand Under 16 girls’ basketball team and we are all very pleased for her. A feature of this team is that it contains three sets of OGHS sisters with the Haua’s, Ballantynes’s and Matehaere’s. Our sincere thanks and admiration go to Mrs Keri Ballantyne for being such an efficient and awesome manager. Thanks also to Natalie and Mrs Penny Mackay for coaching us during the year. We are a harmonious team and have improved a lot since the start of the season.
