Year 12 Art Sculpture Installation – Chairs on Stairs

Cheree Henderson —

Our Year 12 Art students recently completed a thought-provoking sculpture installation titled Chairs on Stairs. Inspired by the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, famous for their large-scale wrapping projects and artistic impediments, the group set out to create their temporary disruption in a familiar space.

After weeks of research and planning, students Jordan Davidson, Psalm Gomez, and Eve Fraser designed and installed a series of chairs blocking the normal flow of one of the school staircases. The goal was to challenge perception and provoke a reaction from those who encountered it.

Installed for just one morning, Chairs on Stairs certainly got people talking. Feedback ranged from “I love it” to “it’s really annoying,” but overall, the response was positive—exactly the kind of engagement the artists hoped to inspire.

Well done to the group for bringing contemporary art into our everyday space in such a creative and impactful way!
