Tui Taiaroa - Smithies, Year 11, recently placed 2nd in the Shakespeare’s Globe Center New Zealand Shakespeare Costume Design Competition. 

The highlight of this week has been the staging of our Otago Girls’, Otago Boys’ production of High School Musical.

In June this year Otago Girls’ staff and students farewelled long term Assistant Principal Sue Lynch who has recently accepted a job in Wellington as a National Assessment Facilitator with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

First and foremost, we are about reducing all waste, especially plastic…but if you do have soft plastics in your households and work places, then they can be collected and then recycled. 

As part of the Year 12 Media Studies course, we, in groups, had to come up with and execute a radio-show at OAR fm (Otago Access Radio). 

The annual Human Rights Festival was held last week.

On Sunday 21 May, the Otago Secondary Schools' Swimming Championships were held at Moana Pool.

Over the course of the past few weeks, Larissa Howie and myself have begun our work with The Edge Radio Station (91.8 FM), promoting The Edge within the school and helping out with the yearly ‘Octacan’ charity event.

We are incredibly proud of the following OGHS students who gained placings and an honourable mention in the Astronomers Without Borders Astropoetry International Poetry Competition this month.

On Friday lunchtime Year 11 Economics held their annual Market Day which is part of one of their internal assessments for the year.
