December 2023 - Year 10 Camp Omakau

Ms C Hayward, TIC Omakau CampFebruary 7, 2024

Camp Omakau had a fantastic week in Central Otago. We ventured away from school on Monday morning, stopping in Sutton to walk around the Salt Lake, and then in Ranfurly for lunch. The weather was completely on our side on Tuesday and the sun was streaming for the students and their new friends, the horses at Back Country Saddles, where they went horse trekking. Wednesday was another beautiful day as the students went to Omakau Primary School and led the younger children in a series of games, before heading off to St Bathans for hot chips and a swim in the Blue Lake (for those that were brave enough). On Thursday, they got down with the Alexandra Croquet Club, where some students were naturals and all learnt that croquet is actually pretty fun, before heading to the Cromwell Water Park to try their hand at the waterslides and the hamster wheel. We finished the day off with real-fruit ice creams in Cromwell, and a game of spotlight in the evening where some were so good at hiding that they couldn’t be found! After a week of fun in the sun, we packed up on Friday morning and were very happy to be home in our own beds.
