Rafting
Mika Cottle, Year 12 — October 23, 2018
At the end of Term 3, the Level 2 Physical Education students went on a three day long camp at Moke Lake.
This three day camp was packed with adventure and there was never a dull moment. Right from when we headed off tramping up to the Sam Sommers loop track, with everything we needed to stay alive in the bush on our backs, we knew it would be a big three days. We were dropped off in pairs and had to set up a tent, cook our dinner and survive one night without the supervision of the teachers. This night was a great experience which allowed us to develop our independence and confidence without the guidance of the teachers.
We tramped out the next day picking up groups along the way, and headed back to our base camp at Moke lake. Then we straight away hopped on our bikes to head off for another adventure with Sylvia leading the way. This bike trail was very exciting because it had 28 river crossings. We attempted to cross on our bikes and got very wet doing so. After the bike a few brave students decided that although it was forecast for snow, to jump in the lake. It’s fair to say we didn’t stay in the lake long.
On the last day we were lucky enough to go rafting on the Kawarau river in Queenstown. All of us were groaning just wanting to head home at that point but as soon as we jumped on board the rafts it quickly become the highlight of camp. We flew down the rapids, were jumping in and out of the rafts and paddled down the river all with a smile on our faces. Rafting was honestly the best experience of my life and if I got the opportunity again I would definitely go.
Overall it was a great camp, I learnt a lot more about everyone around me and definitely developed closer friendships with all the girls on camp. Thank you to Mrs Clements, Mrs Hickley, Mrs Matthews, Ms Munro and Sylvia Clements for giving us this awesome opportunity.
