Te Pōkai Korimako - Year 5&6

Te Pōkai Korimako —

Term 4 is racing away and it has been a busy couple of weeks in Te Pōkai Korimako.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Science Roadshow visit to our school a couple of weeks ago. We learnt about atoms and even constructed one of our own from simple materials. We enjoyed learning about magnets and how they behave around each other and were fascinated by watching how liquid nitrogen works. We even got to squash Mr Pritchard on a bed of nails!

Our Korimako kids have been enjoying using papier mache techniques to create a base for their box clocks. These are coming along nicely and have been a great longer term project for us to work on. Please come along and have a look at them and the rest of our Art at Ohoka display during the garden tour next weekend.

We have heard that the school pool will open from Monday 20th November. Students will have regular swimming spots from that date and so please do ensure that swimming gear is brought to school each day, especially if the weather is hot.

A couple of special events are coming up for our Year 6 group. On Friday 1st December, our Year 6 group will have the opportunity to spend the day at the Kaiapoi Technology Centre. This will give them a little taste of what is to come next year and will no doubt be an exciting experience for them all. There is no cost for this. Transport to and from, will be by bus, which is already organised. A teacher will accompany the group for the day.

On Monday 4th December and Tuesday 5th December, the Year 6 group will participate in the Cycle Sense programme which is sponsored by the Waimakariri District Council and NCSRT (North Canterbury Sports and Recreation Trust). Parents should have already received a note about this but if you have missed it, please do let us know.
