Te Pōkai Kārearea

Te Pōkai Karearea —

This term in Te Pōkai Kārearea we have been focussing on developing our creativity.

This term in Te Pokai Karearea we have been basing our learning around creativity. One way we have expressed ourselves is art. Students have made inspirational leaders out of cardboard, using different styles and textures to create their face and upper body.

We have also been doing picture keys. This is where students get given a certain shape or line and we have to make it into a picture using whatever comes into our minds. We have also been doing creative writing this term. We are given a story starter and we finish this however we want.

Students have also been experimenting with green screening. We went around the school and took some photos. Once we found the photo that we liked the most, we took a photo of ourselves posing in front of a green screen. We used the green screen app to create our photo. We then did some creative writing about our picture.

A separate writing project that we are involved in is the Intermediate Writers Award. This is where students chose a social movement or an inspirational leader of choice and write about in an essay format. The requirement is that there must be 500 to 1300 words. ‍‍‍‍The best three essays will be sent in to be judged along with the other schools across New Zealand who entered the competition.
