Enrolment process for Ōhoka School

Ohoka Office —

To be entitled to attend Ōhoka School you will need to either be in zone or be successful in an Out of Zone Ballot.

The new entrant enrolment process

  • Please contact the office at Ohoka school 03 3126840 or email office@ohoka.school.nz with your name and your childs name, date of birth of your child and proposed start date. If you are in the Ōhoka school Zone we will then send you an enrolment form to fill out.

  • Your child’s new entrant teacher will then make contact with you to arrange pre entry visits

  • Generally there are three pre-entry visits prior to starting school, depending on individual needs, this is flexible and meets the needs of your child.

  • Pre-schools are also welcome to visit as part of the transition process, along with the child.

New Entrant Cohort Entry

Ōhoka School has adopted ‘cohort entry.’ Cohort entry is when new entrants start school in groups through the year rather than on their fifth birthday.

In schools which have adopted a policy of cohort entry new entrants are able to start school in cohorts but only after they have turned five. There are two entry points per term, one on the first day of term, and one at a mid-point during a term.

Cohort entry is about helping children to settle better in school. There is evidence that starting school alongside other children helps them build relationships and supports a smoother entry to school life.

The Ōhoka School zone is as per the photo below.  So long as your address is in the zone then you are automatically entitled to be enrolled. You can check if you are in zone by clicking this link https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/find-school

In Zone Students - To arrange for link to the online enrolment form to be sent to you please either email office@ohoka.school.nz or call the office on 03 312 6840.

Out of Zone -

Should you not be in Zone you will need to apply for a place via an Out of Zone Ballot if there is one being held.

The BoT at Ōhoka School reviews the roll termly to determine if Out of Zone spaces are available. This means that to apply for the start of Term one you would submit an application for the ballot in Term 4 the previous year, Term 2 apply in term 1 etc.

There is no guarantee a ballot will be held if we do not have spaces available. An advert is also placed on the school website and facebook pages around 2 weeks before the application deadline.
