Ōhoka School —

I hope that everyone had a lovely, long weekend.

We are now all back to normal here at school after the flooding events at the beginning of the week prior. Many thanks for all your support regarding the school closure last Monday - closing a school is something that we don’t take lightly, but we think it was definitely the right decision to make considering all that was happening around us.

Wishing all our zone cross country runners the very best of luck at today’s event. We know that you will make us all very proud.

At the end of this term, we will be sharing our mid-year student reports on HERO. You will be able to access information indicating how your child/ren is doing in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, against our curriculum expectations as well as an assessment relating to how your child/ren is/are doing in relation to our school values dispositions. In regards to the curriculum graphs that you will see, please know that it takes two years for students to move through a curriculum level (i.e Level 1 = Year 1 & 2) and student progress is not always linear. Students can sometimes have periods of consolidation and this is very normal. It doesn’t mean progress has not been made through the last 5 months. We have a no surprises policy and all teachers would have been in touch prior to the mid-year reports going out, if they needed to talk to you about your child’s achievement in any of the curriculum areas. Reports will be available for you to access on HERO on Friday 9th July.

After the July holidays, in Week 1, we will be holding Hui Ako Meetings (parent / teacher meetings). This will be a time to discuss your child’s achievement and learning. Further details and booking information to come towards the end of this term.

Our next whole school Assembly will be next Friday 17th June at 2pm, and will be run by Te Pōkai Kākā students. Everyone is welcome!

In July across the country, there will be a series of paid union meetings for primary teachers who belong to the NZEI union. This will be happening for the North Canterbury region on Thursday 1st July at 1.30pm. We will not be closing for this, but offering supervision from 12.30pm onwards, with myself and some non-union staff. If you would prefer to collect your child at 12.30pm on this day, please feel free to do so.

Change to scheduled teacher only day. To avoid a clash with the PTA STARS event we have changed the date from 16 to 23 August 2021. This date has been added to the public calendar. The school will be closed for instruction on this day.

Have a super week
