Ohoka School Programme Supporting Māori
Ohoka School works alongside our cluster partners, Fernside School, Clarkville School and Swannanoa School to ensure all māori tamariki have the opportunity to proudly succeed as Māori in our wharekura.
Our Hapu is informed of all that we do at Ohoka School to grow and enhance our skills and understandings of things Māori. These include: Mihi Whakatau, Whānau Hui, Kapa haka, regular learning, practice and growing of mihi across all levels, inclusion of Te Reo and Tikanga in classrooms, and recognition and inclusion of Maori aspects through our curriculum mahi.
We warmly welcome our Māori whānau to Ohoka School.
Basic Mihi Structure (He Mihimihi Framework)
This is the basic mihi structure taught to all students from age 5. Students are however encouraged to bring their own mihi if they have an alternative and to develop their own over their time at school. Mihi is used in every assembly (and other formal settings) for students and staff to introduce themselves.
