Learning Conferences - Hui Ako

Ohoka Office —

This year has been a year of all years and while our students have come back to school after the lockdown period settled and ready to learn, we feel it really important to touch base with all parents in regards to their child/rens learning. Therefore it is our intention to run more Learning Conferences (Hui Ako). These were due next term, but we felt that meeting with all families this term would be more timely, particularly after the students being offsite for 8 weeks. Parents will have gained a lot of valuable insight regarding their children as learners and will be able to contribute hugely to the conversations with teachers.

At the learning conferences teachers will be sharing where the students are at in relation to reading, writing, maths and our school values. We see these as very collaborative conversations, and, by the end, specific goals will be set for the remainder of the year. Each student’s current achievement and goals will then be shared with you via our student manager system HERO, early next term.

These conferences will be run in Week 11 of this term, over three days. Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 June from 1pm - 6pm. Activities will be run for students, by myself and another couple of teachers, on those afternoons so that teachers can be available for appointments. We have 63 appointments available per co-teaching team, so we hope this offers lots of choice for people.

What you need to know and do;

  • Meetings will last 15mins

  • Students will be supervised in activities on all three afternoons.

  • Bookings will be available online. Click on this link to take you to the Ōhoka School booking page. If you are asked for a code use p4cka

  • You then need to follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive an email confirmation of the date and time you have booked.

  • Bookings close on Friday 19th June

Prior to the conferences, please give thought to the following questions;

  • What did you notice about your child's engagement during the lockdown period?

  • What did you notice about your child’s work habits?

  • What did your child really enjoy/ find challenging with the home learning activities? Why do you think this was?

  • What do you think are your child’s learning goals in relation to our school values (Respect, Responsibility and Resilience) ?

  • What do you see as the most important for your child in their learning, in the next two terms?

Many thanks,
