The North Canterbury Primary Schools Debating competition is underway again for the year.
Congratulations to our two amazing debating teams - Ohoka 1 (Daniel L, Joe H and Helena W) and Ohoka 2 (Tom W, Gracie H and Jasmine G). Both teams survived the first round. Ohoka 1 with a bye and Ohoka 2 winning their first ever debate against Woodend.
Both teams prepared stunning debates to argue the second round moot that “ Children these days have too much screen time.” Our Ohoka 2 team were well prepared to argue the affirmative side of the moot, only to find that our opposition - Fernside, had also prepared the same positive argument. The result was more of a presentation of speeches than a debate but our Ohoka 2 team was successful in winning in terms of content and their manner of presentation. Well done team!
Our Ohoka 1 team came up against some very strong opposition from Amberley School. This was an extremely tight debate but unfortunately the result was a loss to us by a single point!
