Ōhoka School - March 19, 2025
Week 8
Kia ora koutou,
I hope that everyone is having a great week. It is definitely starting to feel like Autumn is upon us and I can not believe how quickly the term is flying by!
As most of you will be aware, upgrade work has begun on the old Korimako block. They are making good progress but it is likely to take longer than expected. We will keep you updated.
Yesterday, we had a fabulous afternoon at Pegasus Swimming Championship. All students represented our school with pride and our Year 5 and Year 6 mixed relays both won their races!
PTA Update
We’re excited to announce that the Garden Tour, our biggest fundraiser of the year, is on the calendar in 2025. The event will take place in early November and will feature tours of 5 beautiful gardens around Ōhoka, along with a festive fete and market at the school.
The PTA are currently looking for volunteers to join the Garden Tour committee and help bring this event to life. The committee plays a vital role in making the event a success, and tasks include:
Locking in gardens for the tour
Organising sponsorship
Advertising and promoting the event
Coordinating the fete/market and more!
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a key community event while helping us raise crucial funds. We would like to get underway with planning in the next week. If you're interested in being part of this exciting event, please let me know - principal@ohoka.school.nz
Looking forward to hearing from you and working together to make this year’s Garden Tour a huge success.
Our last school assembly for this term will be held on Thursday in week 10 (4 April).
What’s coming up:
As a school, we have been doing a lot of work around the two new curriculum areas that have been refreshed and available to use this year. Our big focus for this year is in Mathematics. The Ministry of Education has allocated each school two curriculum days this year to focus on Mathematics.
School will be closed for instruction on these days:
Term 2: Friday 30 May - before the King's Birthday long weekend
Term 4: Thursday 13 November - before the long weekend
Important Dates for Term 2
Next week will be putting together the mini calendar of events for Term 2. Please look out for this on Hero before the end of term.
Cross Country
Please note we had to change the date for our school cross country due to a clash with the Rakahuri Zones, which recently set their date. The new date for our event is Wednesday, 14 May.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Ngā mihi nui,
Amy O’Kane
