Okains Bay akonga visit the West Coast as part of a cultural experience.

Principal Okains Bay School —

On Monday 7 November Okains Bay school traveled to the West Coast to take part on a geological experience.

The first stop was at Castle Hill where we went for a walk around the rocks and read all about the toru po which have been recently erected. We then traveled to Greymouth and visited Garth Wilsons Jade shop before settling down at the Top 10 Holiday Park in Greymouth. The afternoon activities included going for a swim at the pools and playing on the souped up playground at the camp site.

Tuesday: We visited Punakaiki in the morning to witness how these rocks became formed, and then went to create our own rock placemats with Ray and Colleen.

Wednesday: We visited Shantytown getting dressed up and panning for gold etc. We had an old school experience in the Marsden Valley School at Shantytown. We then travelled down to the Hokitika gorge-walking this scenic pathway before visiting Lake Mahinapua for a lake swim. Our Camp concert was held on Wednesday night at the Hokitika Camping ground.

Thursday: We visited Tree Top walks and were immersed in the bird life and history of the vegetation. We then made the five-hour drive back to Okains Bay.
