Board of Trustees Update

Omokoroa No.1 School —

Looking back on Term 3.

As we start to move into the last weeks of Term 3, it seems like a great opportunity to look back over some of the great things that have gone on at No.1 in the past few weeks.

Student feedback on the new drinking fountains (which are on site and pumping out fresh H2O!) has been overwhelmingly positive - with some children declaring that the water tastes “delicious”!

Adding to our school environment further, our new school signage was installed last week and looks great! Also, our AED has been added to the entrance of the school - secure in a lock box which can be opened when needed thanks to assistance from Emergency Services.

These three projects have had involvement by a wide range of our community - and the wider Omokoroa community. Thank you to all parties for their support in getting these three projects completed, particularly Craig Taylor for his work on our signage, Ange Batt and the Omokoroa Centre Trust for the AED project, and all our students, families and friends for fundraising for the new drinking fountains.

Thank you also to the families that hosted our international students during our recent homestays. Our children are getting first hand experience of what it means to be part of a wider global community, and obviously relish the opportunity to be ambassadors for our school and the BOP region!

The BOT are investigating ways we can offer our students further opportunities in this area - keep an eye out for correspondence coming in the near future relating to this.

Last week, Mr Pentecost and Ben Bell from the BOT joined our Year 8 skiers on the annual Ski Camp at Whakapapa, and got to see our students excel in an environment that, for most, is outside of their comfort zone. It was incredible to see all of our students persevere through lessons, crowds and weather - with all students being able to negotiate Happy Valley on skis by the end of the second day.

This camp is always well supported by parents, who, while getting to ski, take two days out of their lives (and work!) to help out on this camp. Massive thanks to all parents who attended, and to our Bus Driver - Sean Lett - for supporting us again this year.

Thanks to all the respondents from the recent fundraising survey. Our rich school spaces and teaching environment are all made possible thanks to fundraising by the school community. We are lucky to have so many committed individuals (and families) to make all this happen, however support is always needed and succession is something that our fundraising team is always working on.

The BOT encourage everyone within the school community to lend a hand for our upcoming Mower Day event, and also, if you find yourself considering "how can I really get involved?" point you in the direction of our fundraising team, staring with Ange Batt and Liz Wilde.

Finally, the BOT wishes best of luck (on behalf of the wider school community) for this years AIMS Games tournament next week. We know that all involved will represent the school well and have some great experiences to share on their return!
