Omokoroa No.1 School —

The Senior Syndicate’s programme includes a Mandarin lesson each week with Mrs Faulkner. Each class has the opportunity to learn the language, both written and spoken (Pinyin), as well as about the Chinese and Mandarin culture. Pinyin, is a system that spells Chinese names and words based on their pronunciation. In Mandarin Chinese, it literally means 'spell sound'. It can be a really useful tool to help you learn the correct pronunciation of Mandarin words. The students are amazing at remembering by sight, many Chinese symbols representing words. So far they are able to work out approximately 30 different words.

This week the students have been experiencing how to write Chinese using some of Mrs Faulkner’s beautiful brushes, stamps and paper.
