Omokoroa No.1 School —

At the end of last term many ‘Jiddles’ children attended the World of Maths here at our school.

There were nineteen large, colourful displays which students had the time and freedom to interact with to try to solve a variety of mathematical problems. In groups, students were involved in discovering number patterns, identifying geometric properties, thinking logically and applying mathematics to the physical world. Some of the fun activities were: ‘Finding Katie’, where students were given a range of different coloured doors to choose from, ‘Bridge Building’, building a bridge trying to use as few plank blocks as possible, “Racing Monkeys’, timing various shaped monkeys on a vertical track and ‘Truck Loading’, Finding the optimum weight for a truck’s load before it got too heavy. All in all, it was lots of fun with Mathematics!
