Principal's Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

Important updates and information from our Acting Principal.

Kia ora koutou,

I am so impressed with the level of commitment that our parent community expresses every day at our school.

We are so lucky as a staff, and your children are so lucky, that you all pitch in when and where you can.

There are many people to thank for their actions over the last few weeks:

Thank you to all of you who attended the recent Parent Information Evening. Hopefully you found the sessions enlightening and helpful as children settle into another school year. Teachers also find that these sessions give them the opportunity to connect and communicate with parents and to explain expectations for the year.

Thanks also to those of you who have volunteered to be camp parents. We really do rely on you for these events to happen. The Middle school certainly had a wonderful time in Raglan and are really appreciative of the great job the parents did. Thanks also to the Y5 and 6 teachers, Rob, Liz, Leanne and SJ who managed this large group so well.

Thank you to the parents who turned up to lift a course of concrete and saved the school $1000. Hopefully you had a few laughs along the way.

Thank you to those of you who have put your name down on the Sausage Sizzle roster. The children really appreciate it, as can be seen above by the long queues on Fridays!

Thanks to the amazing families who have given thought to the proposed “CultureFest” day and have sent in their forms with great ideas. If your family wants to be involved in this can you please send the completed form to the office by this Wednesday 26th, as we need to decide fairly quickly if this is a viable proposition. So far I have received seven responses, all very positive, but would love some more so that we can ensure this will be an interesting and colourful school community event.

WELCOME

  • To Gusto Scott and Violet Fergus who have joined us as 5 year olds.

  • To Serenity and Keanu Morris who have transferred here from Hamilton. Serenity is in Year 6 and Keanu in Year 2.

  • To Sarah Byrne who is here on Teaching Practicum, currently in Room 4 with Rob Maclaren.

We hope you all enjoy and make the most of your time at No 1.

FAREWELL to our fabulous Korean visitors. This is the final week for many of you. We have been delighted to host you. We had a lovely afternoon out at the beach. Thanks to Cushla for organising the outing and Craig for bringing his boat and giving everyone a ride out on the harbour. We hope you take many happy memories back home with you, as well as lots of photographs!

MARCH TESTING Students are routinely tested at this time of year. It is really helpful if absences can be kept to a minimum as it is very disruptive having to catch students up at another time.

ENROLMENTS A reminder that if you have children who are starting school this year and are not currently enrolled, could you please contact the office soon so that we can forward plan. If you know of other families with children planning to attend, can you also remind them to come and enrol.

HEADSETS Hopefully your child now has their own headset at school for online learning. It makes a real difference if they are not hunting around for a working set.

TEACHER ONLY DAY A reminder that this is coming up next Monday 2nd March. Staff will be involved in Professional Development with a focus on Numeracy. Kinesis is available for child care on this day. School will be closed. Please note that the school pool will be unavailable from 10am-12pm this day.

SAFETY We still have parents parking in the bus bay and students crossing the road unsupervised. Please take care.
