First Tui Class Trip!

Omokoroa No.1 School —

The Tui Class visited Adrian Worsley’s Metal Gallery, Museum and Workshop in Te Aroha.

On Wednesday, October 23rd, instead of research projects, teamwork tasks, and building huts in the native area, seven students representing Tui Class headed off to Te Aroha to meet Adrian Worsley, a New Zealand Metal Artist.

After a quick stop at the giant L&P bottle in Paeroa, it was off to the gallery. The museum maze was definitely a highlight, where you can walk through all the metal resources Adrian has collected over 23 years. There are spanners hanging on the walls, metal cogs, old typewriters, which were a favourite of Isi’s, and lots of places to hide or play Marco Polo.

In the gallery, the students learned about some of Adrian’s art pieces, including a giant bull as tall as a building, a racehorse, and other wonderful metal creations. We also got to view his current work-in-progress project, a giant cow for a local homestead in the Waikato.

Our trip to meet Adrian had another purpose; he has kindly donated, created, and presented to our students a Tui Class Trophy for prize giving this year. A student who has worked hard throughout the year, demonstrated growth and represents our Tui class values will receive it. The brief from Ms Cookson was for it to have some moving parts and be a unique trophy, and Adrian went above and beyond with his creation. We can’t thank you enough Adrian!

What a fantastic first class trip for Tui - we can’t wait to do more exploring next year!
