Omokoroa No.1 School —

Welcome Back to Term 2

Kia ora koutou,

It has been a busy and exciting start to Term 2.

Last week we had Jack Thatcher visit us to teach all Year 5-8 students about the history of Waka Ama and the cultural significance to Aotearoa. Jack is a master navigator and is based in Tauranga. He has navigated waka – without instruments – across more than 65,000 km of the Pacific Ocean.

This morning Pic Picot / founder of Pic’s peanut butter brand came in to talk to the Year 7/8 students about his sailing life and early business adventures and his new book launch.

Our new multipurpose space is almost complete and we have an official opening ceremony and blessing on Monday 17 May, 9am. All are welcome to attend.

To help reduce the traffic congestion on Emeny Road, and the pick up of students at the end of the day, we are going to open up the top field gate on Plummers Point Road and introduce a new system. This will be explained in more detail in this newsletter. Using the top field instead of the bottom field will be safer, reduce the traffic outside school, and provide more space for parking. From Wednesday the bottom field gate (Emeny Road) will be locked.

It is great to have Winter Sports up and running and see so many of our students participating. Special thanks to Claire George for all of her administration work behind the scenes and all of the parents that are helping with coaching/managing teams this season.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
