Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme

Omokoroa No.1 School —

In the next few weeks our classes will be participating in lessons from the Keeping Ourselves Safe (K.O.S) programme.

K.O.S has been developed by the NZ Police and provides a comprehensive range of resources to help students learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others.

The lessons are taken by the classroom teachers and cover a range of focus areas. The first area, “I am Unique” (Y0-3), “Confident Me”

(Y4-6) and ‘Standing Up For Myself” (Y 7-8) teaches the children to confidently verbalise their feelings and make decisions about when they are feeling safe or unsafe. More information about KOS can be found on the following parent/whanau link:

https://www.police.govt.nz/advice/personal-and-community-advice/school-portal/resources/successful-relationships/keeping-1

Our School Community Officer will be in the school on Tuesday the 27th and Thursday the 29th of August. If you have any questions about the programme she would be available during lunchtime on these days to answer questions.

Kind regards
