Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
I hope the start of the school year has gone as well for you as it has for us. The children are settling into their new classes and routines and the learning has begun!
Thank you all for your part in this, acquiring stationery, uniforms and the like so that the transition to a new year at school has been as easy as possible.
Thank you also to those parents who have children in Y5 and Y6, as you had the added bonus of getting your children organised for camp! The Middles left this morning and will be back on Friday, no doubt full of stories of their adventures in Raglan.
All other students will eventually be off to camp during this term. A lot of work goes into organising these amazing EOTC learning experiences, both before and during the camp. Please keep an eye out for notices sent via email and in student bags and respond as soon as you can to enable teachers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Below are some other messages and reminders.
WINTER JACKETS
It is hard to think about at this time of year but if you want to order a winter jacket online, to be ready for Term 2, the absolute close off date is 17th February, the beginning of next week.
ENROLLMENTS
We have started the school year with 278 students, which includes 11 part time internationals. If you have children who are starting school this year and are not currently enrolled, could you please contact the office soon so that we can forward plan. If you know of other families with children planning to attend, can you also remind them to come and enrol.
CURRICULUM
This year our major curriculum goal for staff professional development and student achievement continues to be on Written Language. We had some good progress last year and are keen to continue with this focus. Last year we developed own local curriculum and will be sharing this in due course.
SAFETY
To ensure our students are safe please make sure that you are extremely careful when dropping off and picking up students. No student is to cross the road during these times without an adult. The bottom part of the bottom field, ie the native bush end, is open for you to park and collect your child from class. Please don’t drive too far on to the field. The bottom gate is locked at 3:30 so if you do use this option please leave promptly.
Please do not park in the Bus Bay.
Please feel free to contact me at susan.mcroberts@omokoroa.school.nz if you have anything you would like to discuss, or pop in if I am in the office.
Nga mihi nui,
Susan McRoberts
Acting Principal
