Principal's Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

Important information and updates from our principal.

Kia ora koutou,

The Year 8 students made the most of their mountain and ski experience last week. All students skied in rain and white out conditions on the first day and stayed in Iwikau Ski Lodge for two nights. We had lots of rain and strong winds but our students loved every minute. Special thanks to the parents that were able to attend the camp with us.

Our speech finalists put our guest judges under pressure by presenting high quality speeches. I was impressed with the students confidence when speaking in front of an audience and the wide variety of topics that kept the audience engaged and entertained.

This week our Year 6 students get the opportunity to start paddling in our Waka Ama. Our instructors Liz Webster and Les. I will also be on the Waka as the steerer. If students wish to pursue this sport there will be further opportunities to train and take part in school competitions during 2022. The students have already had two hours of waka ama etiquette, history and safety lessons with Liz Webster and Jack Thatcher (waka paddler and master navigator).

We have reached the last week of Term 3 and even with another lockdown thrown in, it has been a successful term for our learning community. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming school holidays and lets hope Term 4 brings us into Alert Level 1.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
