Principal's Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

Important information and updates from our principal.

Kia ora koutou,

We are nearing the finish line for the 2021 year. It will be a frantic sprint over the coming days as we pack in as many exciting learning opportunities for our students to finish strong.

Congratulations to all Year 6 students for running a very successful Market Day last week. They all managed their stalls with professionalism, pride, and passion.

Early last week a vehicle travelling too fast down Plummers Point Road flipped and slid off the road opposite the top field gate. If this vehicle had crashed 30 minutes earlier we could have had a fatality as parents are now parking in dangerous areas along Plummers Point Road. Students should not be crossing Plummers Point Road to vehicles after school. Students waiting for pick up need to wait under the dome. To help ease the parking congestion after school at 3pm pick up, parents are able to arrive at school from 3.10pm to collect students. By 3.10pm there are multiple car parking spaces available on Emeny Road. Students are able to wait in the Dome until 3.30pm. The BoT are contacting the WBOP to see if we can get the parking bay on Emeny Road extended next year.

All Year 1-5 students loved their ice skating experience at the Omokoroa Pavilion. It was great to see so many smiling faces before, during, and after the ice skating. Special thanks to all of the parents that supported this event and provided transport.

Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we are unable to hold our whole school learning community end of year prize giving. We will be holding a 'student and staff' ONLY prize giving on Monday 13th December from 1.30pm. This will be live streamed on our school facebook page.

2021 has been another year that has tested our resilience, problem solving skills, and patience. I am very grateful to all of our learning community for being so supportive in all we have done to ensure we continue to 'be our best' for our students and keep them all safe. Special thanks to everyone for supporting us throughout a very 'testing' year. Our 'Parent Appreciation' movie is included in this newsletter and will be up on the school Facebook Page.

I hope you all get the opportunity to spend quality time with family, friends, and whanau over the summer break and stay safe.

Our last day for the year is Wednesday 15 December at 12.30pm.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
