Omokoroa No.1 School —

Our visit to the Astronomical Society.

On Friday the Junior classes went to visit the Astronomical Society at Ferguson Park. We all got to look through big telescopes where we could see Jupiter and its moons and Saturn and its rings. We went upstairs in a room where the roof came off and got to look at the moon through an even bigger telescope. We could see the craters and we noticed the edge of the moon was bumpy.

When we went inside we listened to Mr Grieg speak about the Solar System. We learnt about the phases of the moon and how it changes throughout the month. We also learnt a trick to remember the order of the planets from the sun.

Did you know that in 2024 NASA is planning on sending a spaceship back to the moon? We will get to watch the first woman astronaut, walk on the moon. We are looking forward to being able to see this in our lifetime.

Many thanks to the parents and teachers who came along and enabled our students to be part of such a great learning experience.
