WANZ
Exploring with Wild about New Zealand.
The students have had a great time learning about NZ birds and exploring the area looking for them.
Thanks to Paul Cuming from Western Bay Wildlife Trust for taking Omokoroa No. 1 school on a bird walk at Huhurua Harbour Park. We saw Kotare, Tui, Heron and Harrier to name a few.
The birds we saw on the other side at Omokoroa were not just godwits either. In the mix there were two Oystercatcher species, Caspian Tern & NZ Dotterel, 1025 birds later! So. 30 species all in all! That's definitely a record.
We also did the Great Kereru Count at the Quarry but didn't spot any Kereru though 4 had been spotted by volunteers at the park earlier in the day. We did see many Tui and a frogs as well!
Next term we'll be exploring trees, insects, eels and Godwits. For Term 3 and 4 the Western Bay Council is not funding this program so atm it is a parent funded program. Looking forward to getting out there in Nature!
