Principals Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

We have had a fantastic term of learning at Omokoroa No.1 School.

Kia ora koutou,

I would like to thank our learning community for your support with our Kiwi-a-thon. As well as helping our students learn more about Aotearoa we have raised $7190. This money will help us replace our school drinking fountains. I am hoping to have new drinking fountains installed during Term 3.

We have had a fantastic term of learning at Omokoroa No.1 School. Highlights include Year 7/8 Sports Camp, Cross Country running, playground creations, Life Education, Fresh Moves, Rippa Rugby World Cup, Basketball World Cup, and Wild about NZ rat trapping.

This Thursday afternoon we are planning to have a Matariki celebration by flying kites. All parents are welcome to join us from 1.30pm.

Our teachers have spent a lot of time creating individual student mid-year Progress Reports. Please ensure you read these reports, celebrate their learning progress, discuss next learning steps, and ask them about how to best achieve their learning goals.

Our Pool Changing Shed project plans are complete and we are now waiting for the MoE to approve them. Once we have financial approval, engineers reports, and building consent we will be able to break ground on this long-awaited project.

During the holidays there is a pirate ship being constructed with funding from the Omokoroa Community Centre, Daryl Scott (Scott Partners) and Adam Ross (Sabre Construction). This will be a built next to the junior sandpit and will be used as a 'Play Based learning' resource for our students.

Thank you to the families that have been able to host a Chinese or Japanese student that are joining us for a short stay at the beginning of Term 3. There is an information meeting for all host families in the Multi-media room this Wednesday from 6pm.

I trust that you will all take the opportunity to spend some quality family time with your children during the upcoming holidays. We look forward to having all of our amazing students back for the start of Term 3 on Monday 22 July.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
