Omokoroa No.1 School —

Room 3 has been learning how to write poems. Here are some of the wonderful examples.

My First Day of Poetry Writing

It’s my first day of poetry writing today

I feel a horrid smack of dismay

I’m out of ideas at first

I’m bored and need to quench my thirst.

I sit in silence with my pencil in my hand

This is not my utopian wonderland

I’m feeling drowsy so I rest my head

I’d rather be in fresh air instead

I get out of my desk, push back my hair

I’m anxious, and I feel a tear

My teacher turns to me, her eyes are glaring

I lack the courage to be sharing!

I’m really scared, I try to run

If there was a wimpy race, I would’ve won!

I back away out the door,

I’ve escaped my problems, that's for sure

It’s the second day of poetry writing today…

I feel a more horrid smack of dismay

I can't bare the boredom and sorrow

I want to procrastinate until tomorrow

But what shall I do?

It’s nearly quarter-to!

I’m far behind, I feel adrift

I feel depressed, I need an uplift

But suddenly, out of the blue

An idea comes, I want to continue

But I’ve only got five minutes ‘till interval!

But oh how I love it, it’s so original!

I know you are wondering what it’s about

It’s about poem writer in doubt

He can barely rhyme, kind of like me

But he gets anI’m presenting my poem tomorrow...

The Best Part of Me

The best part of me is my nose

My nose helps me identify different scents

I love it because I couldn’t live without it

My nose helps me clear the air I breathe

If I didn’t have my nose I wouldn’t be able to smell

I love to sniff with my nose because I remember things by their scent

If I didn’t have my nose my sister couldn’t shove pepper in my face

I love my nose because if I didn’t have it I couldn’t smell the amazing smell of new books

If I didn’t have my nose I couldn’t play the sniffing game

I wouldn’t be able to breathe properly

I love my nose because I can learn new things from it

I love my nose!

Women are 50% better at processing smells than men

80% of what you are tasting is determined by what you are smelling

I love my nose because it humidifies your breathe

Nice and warm

And dogs can smell things from 20km away

The best place to be when you have a strong nose is the beach

Because you can smell the smell of salt and fish.

I AM

I am a crazy girl who likes football

I wonder when the world will end

I hear the wind as if it’s talking

I see all the girls and boys have fun

I pretend I’m a world famous football player

I feel that everybody expects me to be perfect

I touch the colorful football

I worry that I’m not good enough

I cry through all my pain

I am a crazy girl who likes football

I understand that life isn’t fair

I say that you can be who you want to be

I dream of flying high in the sky

I try to help defence

I hope I will live forever

I am a crazy girl who likes football

I smell all the flowers

I concentrate on the game

I aim higher and higher

I wish that I could see my family

I help all the little kids that need helping

I imagine this is all a dream

I am a crazy girl who likes football

I enjoy spending time with my family

I like playing with my friends

I love animals

I sleep knowing everything will be alright

I don’t know why I talk alot

I know my whole family loves me just the way I am

I am a crazy girl who likes football

I Saw

I saw a sea that had no fear

I saw a sea that was braver than a bear

I saw a sea that roared all day

I saw a sea that was bored today

I saw a sea that had glistening waves

I saw a sea that had many Daves

I saw a sea that was very deep

I saw a sea that was going to weep

I saw a sea that was as clear as glass

I saw a sea that was fuller than a beer flask

I saw a sea that reflected the sun

I saw a sea that couldn’t grow wheat to make a bun

I saw a sea that roared all night

I saw a sea that was full of might

I saw a sea that was full of fright

I saw a sea that was a delight

I saw a sea that was feeling fine

I saw a sea which had a good design

I saw a sea, I see a sea

The sea is as free as a bumblebee
