Principals Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

Kia ora koutou,

Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone across our learning community that has supported our Mower Day this year. It was amazing to see lots of new, existing, and past families involved this year. Once again all expectations have been exceeded and I am extremely appreciative of the hundreds of hours that have gone into the preparation of Mower Day by a highly motivated and dedicated team. This year the initial figures show a profit of $61,000. This year we had approximately 10,000 people attend throughout the course of the day. I would like to give a special mention of thanks to Liz Wilde and Ange Batt for once again being the driving force behind and in front of, Mower Day.

Thank you for supporting our Teacher Only Day on Monday. This gave teachers time to develop more of our local school curriculum, final Mower Day pack-up coordination without 300 students, and our students time to recover after an action-packed day. Thanks to Kenesis Events for allowing children to attend childcare free for parents that were helping with Monday Mower Day clean up.

After seven years of Principalship, I have been very fortunate to be awarded a 'Principal Sabbatical' from the Ministry of Education for Term 1, 2020. During my 10 week sabbatical, the BoT has appointed Susan McRoberts as the Acting Principal. Once other 2019 staffing arrangements have been confirmed I will notify our learning community.

We only have five weeks left of Term 4 and there is a lot of learning and special events to keep us all on our toes.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
