Principals Message

Omokoroa No.1 School —

It was delightful to have these amazing young writers sharing their stories with me last week. Boys writing based on an adventure story of human survivors, who are lost in the Amazon Forest, had certainly captured their imaginations.

Kia ora koutou,

We have had a brilliant term of learning. Our students have continued to impress me with their outstanding effort, attitude, and performance. This term we have had a lot of success across the curriculum with students excelling in, The Arts, Oral Language, Mathematics problem solving, and winter sport.

With winter sports all complete we are looking forward to our summer programme getting started in Term 4. Mr Joe is currently sorting all of the students into teams and has said we have around 230 students playing summer sports in Term 4.

Special thanks to all involved in the Mower Day preparation team. The excitement is building and I’m sure Mower Day 2019 will be another very successful day for Omokoroa No.1 School. There will be regular notices and emails sent out to keep you all updated.

Our students really enjoyed having the NZ Playhouse perform last week. Seeing a professional drama group gave our students some great performance tips to try out and they all thoroughly enjoyed the show.

The World of Maths activities got all of us thinking about how our lives are surrounded with mathematical concepts.

I would like to thank Mrs Fiona Jackson for teaching Room 8 this term while Mr Barthow has been away on his Study Sabbatical. Mr Barthow will be back at school from the beginning of Term 4.

In the second week of the holidays, eleven of the teachers are attending the ‘ULearn’ Conference in Rotorua. This is an opportunity for teachers to exchange ideas and best practices on national education-related issues, see innovative digital technologies, within an environment that encourages thinking, sharing and extending networks.

I hope you all have a fantastic break with your children and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 14 October.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
