Omokoroa No.1 School —

The new addition to our playground is a huge success!

Kia ora koutou,

Term 3 started last week with 'Pirate Fever' amongst our young scallywags. The Pirate ship is a huge success and the students have started a lot of creative adventures. This Friday the Juniors are having a Pirate Dress Up day to officially open the Pirate Ship and reveal the ships name. Special thanks to Troy Evans for providing some ship rope and custom making a steering wheel to ensure our students stay on course. All are welcome to the student opening from 11.45am.

Our eight Chinese students settled into class on Friday and will be with us all week. Thank you to our wonderful host families for making them feel so welcome in your homes and our students for allowing them to join in our your classroom learning activities. Welcome to Jason and Apple who are long term Chinese students studying at Omokoroa No.1 School.

Our schoolwide Inquiry focus during Term 3 is 'Imagination and Innovation'. I am looking forward to seeing all of the exciting learning programmes in action across all classrooms.

This term, one of my goals is to spend more time in classes to build a strong connection with students by learning beside them each week. This week I will be focusing on the Senior Team.

My formal principal appraisal has been completed by Terry Collet. I would like to thank the staff, students, BoT, and parents that contributed to this process as it gave the appraiser valuable feedback for my report.

As we continue to become more culturally responsive for our students we have completed room names and other significant spaces with te reo signage. We have also decided to rename our Multimedia Room as 'Whanau Kotahi'. This translates to 'Number 1 Family' which is a more appropriate name for the multi-purpose use that we use it for now.

With the fundraising achieved from our 'Kiwi-athon' last term we now have enough money to purchase three new drinking fountains. These are a high priority to get installed during this term.

Nga mihi nui,

Craig Pentecost
