Principal's Message
A message from our school Principal.
Kia ora koutou,
The wet weather is very frustrating and we are all overdue for some sunshine. When it is wet in the afternoons we usually have an increase in the number of parents picking up students at 3pm. Please take extra care when visibility is poor during drop off and pick up times at school. Special thanks to Mrs Broadhurst for checking the staff car park drain in the torrential rain this week.
As we approach Mother's Day, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate all the incredible mothers in our community. On behalf of the school, I wish all the mothers a very happy and special Mother's Day!
On Monday we have a new International Korean family with five students joining our school. They will study with us until the end of Term 3 and will be in rooms 3, 10, 11, 14, and 15. We are delighted to welcome these students to our school and are excited about the unique cultural perspectives and experiences they bring to our community. Our school prides itself on fostering an environment where all students feel valued and respected.
We understand that transitioning to a new school and culture can be a challenge, so we have taken steps to ensure that our new students receive the support they need to succeed. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff will be available to provide academic and social support, as well as guidance on adapting to life in a new country. We appreciate your continued support and commitment to making our school a welcoming and inclusive place for all students.
As the school year is in full swing with a steadily growing roll, a reminder about the importance of road safety; it is essential that we work together to ensure the safety of all our students, especially when it comes to getting to and from school.
Here are some key points to remember:
Always use the patrolled crossing at the top of the bus bay if needing to cross Emeny Road and walk along the footpath rather than behind cars.
Always obey the speed limit when driving past school. Remember that children (and parents) can be unpredictable and may not always follow the rules of the road, so it's important to be vigilant and prepared for anything.
Avoid distractions while driving. Keep your attention focused on the road at all times.
Do not tell students to wait to be picked up on the corner of Enemy and Plummers Point Road.
Delaying your pick up time by 5/10 minutes does help ease traffic congestion. Students are able to wait under the dome safely until 3.30pm.
Stop, Drop, and Go Zone; this is in operation from 8.30-8.55am from the Staff Car Park entrance up to Plummers Point Road. Parents need to stay with their car, students should exit cars from the left side onto the footpath.
Parents needing to drop students into classrooms need to park on the orchard side of Emeny Road and use the school crossing.
Nga mihi nui,
Craig Pentecost
