Sensory Storytimes at the Library
During the July school holidays Tauranga City Libraries will be running two Sensory Storytimes. These storytimes have been specifically designed to cater for those on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing differences but are open to all. Participants will enjoy 20-25 minutes of songs, rhymes, and interactive stories in a calm environment, followed by 20 minutes of Sensory Play.
There will be no bright lights or loud noises. A visual schedule will be used, and I am happy to email you a copy of the schedule if it would be useful for you to have this prior to the storytime. The 2 stories that will be read are both interactive and fidgets, earmuffs and weighted 'snakes' will be available.
There is no age range specified for this programme – any child or teen that enjoys listening to picturebooks will be welcome
One session will be in the Greerton Library Meeting room at 10.30am on Monday July 3 and the other in one of the community rooms at Papamoa Library at 10.30 on Thursday July 13.
To register for one or both of the Sensory Storytimes, please email penny.guy@tauranga.govt.nz.
