Wild About NZ
Testing the water quality of our local streams
The Wild About NZ group has been busy testing the water quality of our local streams. First we studied the stream down the road from the school then next we went to Puketoki. We noticed at big difference in the clarity of the water between the streams, Puketoki was super clear we even saw 2 Kuora (crayfish) from the bank. We also saw many more native plants and even a fantail and robin visited us at Puketoki. We looked at both sets of data we had collected and each group made a slide presentation or poster to compare the results. We then presented to Room 4 showing that Emeny road has an ok stream health but Puketoki is very healthy. For the last session of term we will be putting up our Predator Free Bay of Plenty rat traps and finishing the setup of the insect motel. You can get your own rat trap free from the organization or contact Envirohub.
