Students represented our school with pride at the ANZAC Day services, demonstrating respect and honouring the significance of the occasion through their participation.
ANZAC Day is a significant event when we honour the sacrifice and courage of our service men and women. This year, during the dawn and mid-morning services, students from our school represented us with dignity and respect. Hazel J, Elizabeth R and Lachlan C spoke with confidence at the Temuka Dawn Service and Elizabeth also read a prayer in Māori at the mid-morning service. Special mention also goes to Year 11 student Connor G who is a member of the 15th Squadron Air Cadets in Timaru. He attended the Waimate Dawn Parade and Main Parade where he stood guard of the Cenotaph and was a flag bearer for the parade (see photo below). He also attended the Rangitata parade.
Why is ANZAC Day Important?
ANZAC Day commemorates the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought at Gallipoli in World War I. It is a day to remember the bravery and sacrifices made for our freedom. Attending services like the dawn ceremony is a way to show respect for our fallen soldiers.
Our students' participation in the ANZAC Day services reflects positively on our school. By showing respect and reverence, they exemplified the values of honour and remembrance. Mahi tika ana (great work)!
